Dodona Update

Zip Dobyns

After a cool summer and a very brief heat wave in late August, fall seems to have arrived. We are still hoping to develop a web site to offer The Mutable Dilemma and Asteroid-World, but at least one more set of issues in printed form is likely at the end of 1999.

Margrit Spear’s book describing the CCRS principles and comparing them to traditional psychology is now available on her web site: www.simplyjoy.com. Margrit is a licensed psychotherapist in California with a Ph.D. in psychology. She was born in Switzerland, and she is also our church treasurer.

I have had a challenging year, and am working to change a lifetime identification as universal mother. I have taken needy people into my home from the first time I had a home away from my parents in 1947. Literally dozens of people have lived in my home for periods ranging from a few weeks to many years. The habit finally backfired when a woman who had stayed in my home for nearly 4 years without any financial obligation was bitten by a dog belonging to another long-term resident. She sued the dog-owner, me, and CCRS, which owned the house. The suits cost us over $10,000 in money, but they cost more in my health. I had not needed medical assistance, except for overseeing the birth of 4 kids, since January 1945. I have written repeatedly that happy people do not get sick. I proved it by failing to handle the emotional hurt of the suits, and developing ovarian cancer.

The psychological source and meaning of the illness was obvious. Any kind of excess will eventually lead to pain. My body told me it was time to stop making other people into my family. From now on, friends and seminar students will be welcome to stay with me for a few days, but I am working to convince my subconscious that my ovaries are no longer needed to bear more children who need a home for longer periods. I had a hysterectomy on June 29, and am recovering well, though I did cancel my summer and fall trips to take time to fully heal.

Fortunately, my son Mark was able to substitute for me at the English conference in Plymouth. He presented the two lectures I was scheduled for, and did a super job. Maritha also lectured for the English conference. I have postponed a lecture and workshop scheduled for Tucson, AZ in October 1999 until March 2000, and Maritha will substitute for me at the New Age Bible Church in late October. In the meantime, we thank our friends who have sent healing to me. Every doctor I talked to has indicated amazement at my quick recovery from a very lengthy and complicated surgery. We also thank our members who have sent financial donations to help with the cost of the lawsuit. We are learning and growing together.
